How do you live through COVID-19 : Listen to Muslim in Japan
What is happening to global wellbeing?
Humanity is facing the negative effects of globalization, such as the widening gap between rich and poor, ethnic and religious conflicts, and prolonged conflicts and civil wars. Among them, those who are directly affected by these negative aspects are forced to wander as migrants and refugees.
This research (JSPS KAKENHI 19H04354) focuses on Africa, the Middle East, and Asia, which are the origins of large-scale migration and refugees, and attempts to reconsider the various trends in thought and practice that are developing on a global scale with the aim of improving the living conditions of people living in these regions as "global welfare".
This study takes a cross-disciplinary approach, both in the humanities and sciences, to the question of what is currently happening to these regions and their inhabitants, which are the "entry points" to the dynamics of large-scale migration, and what drives them to "move".
In this branch study, by understanding the background of the migration of overseas Muslims living in Japan and capturing the changes in the views and practices of life and death of people under the pressure of the COVID-19 pandemic, we will learn from the wisdom and experiences of people who, in spite of the harsh conditions, devise various ways to make a living in Japan as a foreign country.
It is also necessary for the host society (Japan) to know what kind of difficulties such Muslim is facing, and what kind of support they are looking for, as the host society is taking advantage of their labor.
The research method is a snowball qualitative interviewing method. Interviews will be conducted based on one to one interviews remotely.
Assistant Professor Gaku MASUDA, an anthropologist design this study and conduct quality control of the interviewing methods. The study is being conducted with the full dedication of Dr Ishtiaq Ahmad Ph.D, a young researcher, who is also a medical doctor from Pakistan.
グローバルウェルフェアはどうなっていくのか：担い手にたずねる
グローバライゼーションにともない、人類は貧富の格差の拡大、民族・宗教間の対立、紛争・内戦の長期化などのグローバル化の負の側面の影響に直面している。なかでもこれら負の側面の影響を正面から受けた人々は、移民・難民として流浪の旅を余儀なくされている。
母体となる本研究(科研費 19H04354)は、大規模な移民・難民の起源地でもあるアフリカ、中東、アジア地域に着目して、これらの地域に住む人々の生活条件の向上をめざして地球規模で展開する思想・実践の諸潮流を「グローバル・ウェルフェア」としてとらえ直す試みとしてはじまった。
そのうえで本研究は、第一に、大規模な移民の動態の“入口”であるこれらの地域とその住民に現在何が起こっており、何が彼らを“移動”へと駆り立てるのかという問題に、文理双方にわたる領域横断的なアプローチをつかって実証的かつ理論的に現状分析のメスを入れる。
本分担研究では、なかでも日本で暮らす海外出身のイスラム教徒に注目する。これら人々の移動の背景を把握し、COVID-19下にある人々の死生観や実践の変化をとらえることを通じて、厳しい状況に置かれつつさまざまな工夫をしながら異国での暮らしを編み出していく人々の知恵と経験に学ぶ。
また、日本で暮らす外国出身のムスリムがこのパンデミック下でどのような困難に直面し、どのような支援を求めているのかを、彼らの労働力を受け入れる社会である日本は知る必要がある。
調査方法は、半構造化された質的インタビュー法を用い、金曜礼拝時の接触のほか、スノーボール式にインフォマントを獲得する。インタビューは、感染リスクに配慮して遠隔による1対1のインタビューを基本としている。
益田岳助教（文化人類学）が本研究の設計とインタビュー方法の品質管理を担当する。本研究は、パキスタン出身の医師でもある若手研究者、イシュティアク・アフマド博士の全面的な協力により実施される。
